Dermaplaning

The ideal candidate for dermaplaning is someone focused on anti-aging or seeking a smooth and flawless canvas for makeup application. This treatment is well-suited for clients concerned about dull, dry skin, a sallow complexion, enlarged pores, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars. 

However, there are certain contraindications for this treatment, including but not limited to uncontrolled diabetes, active cancer, active high-grade acne, active cold sores, bleeding disorders, and blood coagulation issues following injury. Additionally, certain medications such as blood thinners, higher dosages of aspirin, and Accutane (if taken within one year of service) are contraindicated for this treatment due to increased sensitivity and/or the possibility of delayed clotting from a nick or cut.

Most retail blades available in stores or online can effectively remove unwanted "peach fuzz" but are not specifically designed to offer the added benefit of physical exfoliation. These blades come with safety guards to prevent injury during use, which means they only provide hair removal without the extra advantage of exfoliation.

Dermaplaning, a physical/mechanical exfoliation method, is incredibly safe when performed by a professionally trained skincare specialist using the appropriate tools and techniques. Low-quality tools, such as blades not intended for dermaplaning and cheap handles that don't securely lock the blade, can increase the risk of injury to the client and potentially cause scarring. 

Employing proper techniques, including the correct number of passes, angle, and pressure, is crucial to ensure client safety and achieve the best results. Inadequate education in these techniques can lead to a higher likelihood of injuries.

Some clients may experience slight redness or sensitivity following the procedure, but this usually subsides within a few hours.
